This guy went from saying “the whole designing part is done by Good Old Toyota” to then saying “what I meant was Toyota made the important parts like suspension, baadi meking, electrics” etc etc. What a jump! I didn’t know those were design elements ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

For years you have been hating on Chinese cars because they look like “pretty boxes” and they are all looks and no show, and you have been praising Japanese cars for their reliability and engineering.

But here you have changed your colors like a chameleon again. Here you’re saying that the mechanics doesn’t even matter because it’s done by BYD and what matters is the looks and design which is presumably done by Good Old Toyota (which is false).

Never stop being a hypocrite, Khurram ๐Ÿ˜

“I meant that Toyota designed the vehicleโ€™s suspension, body structure and even electrical system based on its knowledge about hybrid electric system and then shared plans with the manufacturer of the choice. ”

Wow! That’s a leap! Can you please give any insight to where we can read this information?

This has been shared again and again that Toyota is simply rebadging and just changing out some plastic trims. That is all. The tech is ALL BYD!

Maybe we are wrong… Can you please share soome links to what you have said so we can learn?

Great question. All if them if you ask me.

However this is a great topic and I would love to see Usman Bhai dig into it and give us some true hard hitting insights. ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ˜‰

I agree bhai Usman, thanks for the source and I am sorry that I did not write plainly before. I meant that Toyota designed the vehicle’s suspension, body structure and even electrical system based on its knowledge about hybrid electric system and then shared plans with the manufacturer of the choice. That is to say, Toyota for its EVs has outsourced the manufacturing part of the vehicle to B.Y.D. the strategy is rather like Apple outsourcing the phone making to some Chinese factory. That is why people are not going to doubt this Toyota E.V. as regards to durability and reliability because primarily it is a Toyota crafted and packaged in China. Thanks for the source and once again I am sorry if my tune of former comment sounded rude.

P.S. I believe Toyota had no other choice than going for this strategy because prices of EVs are regulated. The governments are trying very hard to keep them contained in order to make them seen attractive as compared to I.C.E. cars to car customers.

the article on InsideEvs which is the most trusted source on EV information has mentioned “built by BYD” multiple times in their article. Because there is literally nothing that was “built” by Toyota here.. simple

In my view or as per theory available about Joint Ventures, it does not matter much. Reason, the vehicle designing part is more important than merely giving that design a final shape and that part is done by Toyota so people knowledgeable about joint ventures are not going to doubt over the vehicle’s reliability.

The irony here will be that this will be a Chinese product rebadged/disguised as a Toyota, and most people will be none the wiser. They will just praise it as a marvel of EV engineering by Toyota, not knowing that it is purely a Chinese product.

I’ll give you an example, the Honda CB150F. The 150cc bike from local Honda that many swear by due to its “Honda quality and Honda reliability” etc. etc., In reality it is a purely Chinese bike! It starts life as the SDH150 by a Chinese company Sundiro. Sundiro bikes is a joint venture by Sundiro holdings in China and Honda. The company makes a lot of bikes based on technology from Honda, But the SDH-150 starts life as a pure Chinese bike, just rebadged as a Honda, the CB150F.

When I share this information with people who love the Japanese-ness/unmatched quality of their 150 Honda, the usual response I get is either pure disbelief or blank stares or just annoyance.

I believe that will be the response by the Toyota Sedan EV buyers here as well. “Toyota buying EVs from the Chinese! Poppycock!, balderdash! and what not….”.
