2ZR-FXE is the 1798 cc in Corolla Cross.
1ZR is a 1598 cc engine, doesn’t come in hybrid configs, no FXE version for it.

This 2000cc engine is much better to pull the load of this CUV than the 1800 1ZR-FXE engine which has been launched by Indus in Dec 2023 https://carspiritpk.com/imc-unveils-toyota-corolla-cross-hybrid-and-its-prices/.

Some of the critics have said that it is more of a 4½ gen, a major update to the 4th gen hybrid tech but not distinct enough to be called a whole new gen.

It wants to make sure we do not forget; and they are right, its a lot of money. I agree.

However after spending that much and still only bring in the pervious version of this, quiet frankly, very over priced budget hybrid crossover, its a huge waste. Take Changan for example. It at least brought the latest version of the oshan X7 to Pakistan. Making it the first place where the X7 was sold as an RHD SUV. Granted, they have not shown any performance at all in meeting their claimed export deadlines which is a shame. But still, Toyota, being the powerhouse they claim they are, should have done the same by bring in the latest facelift of the cross to Pakistan. After such a big investment, they should have demanded it. That would have also made the cross a good contender for exports. Again, after such a huge investment, exports make sense. If the only thing they will be doing is selling locally, they are wasting everything.

What does not make sense is a company can invest so much yet achieve so little for decades, there must be something wrong. Either they (car companies/parts vendors) are being forcibly stopped from entering the export market in any meaningful way, or the corruption in the private sector is rivaling the government sector and the only thing they care about it getting their cut; or a combination of both. Other countries around us with their auto industries, with very good investments, even among local companies, have been soaring upwards high in the sky. Yet Pakistan, even though it was one of the first ones to implement an EV policy, had managed to do nothing; let alone the decades wasted in the ICE industry.

Lastly, Changan, if I’m correct, spent a grand total of 100 million dollars to establish their whole assembly business from scratch in Pakistan. Yet Toyota spent only that amount on bring the assembly of just one hybrid to Pakistan (or maybe the 12th gen corolla hybrid, the jury is still out on that one). Not very cost effective. In these hard times, is such a company with such bad spending habits, with no intensions of actually improving its own financial conditions or the nation’s, really good for our nation?

Toyota, and its paid fan site, keep calling the watered down, overpriced, budget Corolla Cross a “game changer”. The only game changing feat it achieved was demonstrate how a company can waste such a large investment.
