Translation: We have the strategic policy of bare-minimum legal compliance. We will not sell a product other than what meets the bare-minimum requirement for us to operate. Exceeding the standard is not our mantra. We will only do it if becomes part of the law. Anyways we don’t have any concept of original thought or social responsibility.

Just a single example, in Pakistan the other assemblers are selling Euro4 (Honda) and Euro6 (Oshan) vehicles, Toyota is still selling Euro2 (bare minimum legal compliance as per 2012 deadline), on the CHMSL brake light of each Corolla, clearly the Catalytic Converter Euro2 sticker is pasted as if it is something to be really proud of.

yeah. and funny thing is whats the cost to make a hybrid and the cost to make an ev. we have seen recently even small startups are making impressive evs but hybrid are so complex to make as they require thousands of parts, even more than ICE cars. so imo Toyota is only hitting the spade on its own legs trying to justify hybrids to be a green solution, but in fact they have lost the race to evs long ago

Very well said.

That also means, by their own admission, EVs are three times better for the environment than hybrids. They themselves have said that three hybrids equal one EV.

They just kicked their own asses with that admission.

so according to Toyota logic, 3 hybrids reduce emission equal to 1 ev, so their 300,000 hybrids are about 90,000 evs & they are happy. now imagine if 1 million evs are sold in the world in 1 year, Toyota will have to sell 3.5 million hybrids for same carbon reduction :D are they mad? where & how will they sell 3x more hybrids.. maloom hai aap apna kachra yaha Pakistan me dump karna chahtay hain but hum 3.5 million kese khareed lain, hum to saal ki 2 lakh ICE cars bhi nahi khareed saktay :P

Well said Usman Bhai. the simple answer to both the Toyota big (read: bloated) wigs. Also, they are always carrying on about "taking every technology along for the ride". So why ignore EVs? Chinses Companies like BYD and Geely are doing more to carry all technologies forward than Toyota does currently. All Toyota is doing is talking big and actually not having any idea how to cope with this change in industry. Mostly because they have a CEO who is stubbornly sticking to the past he knows and is afraid of the future he cannot grasp nor fathom.
