Exactly, this is what I meant by cars turning into iPhones with wheels. They’ll turn into corporate locked machines with no way for yourself to repair it unless you take it to the manufacturer. Tesla has already done this, BMW did this with their i8. Almost everything in a Tesla is software controlled/locked and they are not willing to share any of that technology with any outsiders. It’s a shame that even companies like Toyota are following this feat soon…

The very first thing I though after reading this article. But the comments senselessly devolved into blind brand loyalty and retaliation to it.

Now look at it:
https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-owner-blows-up-car-instead-paying-repair-battery-video-2021-12
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right_to_repair

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motor_Vehicle_Owners'_Right_to_Repair_Act
Videos about Right to repair on this channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/rossmanngroup

That aside, seats can be worn out but damaged? What does that mean? And offer to replace a damaged steering wheel? It is so nonsensical, they will make dedicated shops and a trial program just for software updates for safety systems and driver assistance systems, and replacement of “damaged seats” and “damaged steering wheels”?

Apple has been fighting tooth and nail against the "right to repair" act in the US. So far, thank goodness, it has been loosing the cases; but, sadly, not by much. Don’t worry brother, Toyota will soon do paid software updates to unlock heated seats, heating and Air conditioning (since those are just plain creature comforts) and it will soon follow Tesla’s footsteps of being able to use only Toyota certified and distributed parts on your Toyota, even if it’s the exact part but from an aftermarket maker.

Pretty soon we will see all cars become iPhones on wheels. πŸ˜’

Why is it that nowadays everything that Toyota does feels like its playing “follow the leader”; where it, itself, is the follower.
Toyota made a big ruckus about its first EV the Bz4x; but everything on it was a feature “borrowed” from someone else.
Voice commands; In almost every Chinese SUV even and cheap as chips.
Yoke/cut style steering wheel (Tesla). Even Citroen or Peugeot had cars way back in the 70s or 80s that had the cut steering wheel style. Was a novelty then and it still is now.
Solar panel roof. A lot of EVs already have that especially very good offerings from Chinese EV brands.
Autonomous driving or driving assist. Done to death by so many companies.
The list goes on…

Here too what Toyota is offering is “over priced maintenance deals”
Software updates. Almost every EV gets them almost every other day. These are, and should be, simple over the air updates. Why need to go to Toyota for them?
Worn parts replacement. I wonder what we used to do up till now with our worn parts? Never replace them or just throw them away? No, every part was available from the market. You buy the part and replace. Now Toyota will charge you an arm and a leg for basic services by calling it “genuine company program”. Didn’t they used to replace parts on their cars before this?
This is a good case of “Choona Laga na”. Tesla is already a master at that. Another “added bonus” with Tesla; Only Tesla can repair your Tesla. I hope Toyota doesn’t copy that as well!

Some people don’t want to jiggle around the infotainment screen, they just want to do a task in a more simple way and not everyone over here is too technologically concious.

Doesn’t even matter bro, it’s software updates… from TOYOTA!!!

It’s a different story when we’re talking about technological advancements in Toyota’s case! πŸ˜„

bhai… even then the basic things toyota talking about maintenance is

software updates specifically for safety and driver-assist features like parking and lane changing. They can also replace parts like damaged seats and steering wheels.

afaik… Khurram is the biggest enemy of tech features like parking & lane change assist

however consumers who opt to buy don’t always care about the latest pieces of tech wizardry. They simply want reliable transportation and value for their money and want to keep their cars with them for a longer period of time.

WOW!!!

Khurram can finally be happy now, because Toyota is finally giving a service that is perfectly suited for him and his needs!

Good job Khurram! Toyota (of Japan) finally listened to you!! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ†πŸŽ‡πŸ₯³
