Agree with you a big burden, no wonder for the state of the economy they bring 50 000 MG HS those crazies, the buyers are also faulty, Pakistan economy take a big blow.

In comparison Proton bring 600 cars, with cheaper price and the longest warranty available in Pakistan, also the X-70 is way better than HS as the customers are testifying, clearly MG isn’t a brand to buy, better buy Proton.

And there in lies the kicker. These companies are all allowed to import to their hearts content. They are the ones that pushed the import bill beyond sustainable levels for the government. Yet the used car imports from Japan were blamed which in reality were just a fraction of the actual import bill. By demonizing the used cars imports, they got the government to listen to their “expert” but oh so biased “advice” and to give them what they wanted. Look where that got us. in less than 5 months of passing the new auto policy they had to “slow down the pace”. Government had to cut financing and add taxes on cars to check the pace of the industry. Which country slows down and industry that is “doing too good”? This was the ultimate grift by the local auto companies and auto assemblers. (A.K.A auto importers. whether CKD or CBU.)
My point was that, these companies are allowed all the imports they want. The only “punishment” or stipulation is “pay full tax”. They have already priced their vehicles so high, they can easily cover the “full CBU tax” and make a very decent profit in the process. If not why are some companies pushing for introducing more and more of these CBU “local” cars? The formula/grift is working for them.
I hope it was clear from what I wrote above that those were just my own observations and ideas, but by looking at the way things are going, It makes sense.

It is a limited number of tax-concessioned imports on promise of building an assembly line and then they can import any quantity but they will be fully-taxed.. Rest everybody is free to import as many as they like. Premier is importing Audi and Shahnawaz is importing Mercedes, Dewan is importing BMW etc.

Very True. I think what they have found is the perfect cheat-code/loophole in the auto policies.
The policy allows them “limited” number of imports which in actuality have NO limit.
Think about it, all they have to do is keep up the charade/pretense and provide the government with “authentic” documents that “show” they are preparing the local assembly line for any particular vehicle they are bringing in to the market. All they have to do to after that is maintain the lie that the assembly line is “under construction”. So, in order to keep their brand in the market and keep their company from going under, they make the government give them unlimited CBU imports till further notice or until their so called “ghost assembly line” is complete.
And the best part is, they know the government is too lazy and completely asleep to verify anything thus they can just get away with it easy.

Yeah, and this is why I was hoping the government realizes this sooner and implements special economic tax free zones for (hopefully) manufacturing these vehicles without putting a burden on the import bill, like they promised in the Chinese conference with several different Chinese auto vendors.
