crystal headlights came with the 1999 iterations, when they moved the parking lights to bumpers & relocated the indicators to the wrap-around unit. Also the rear garnish was changed. Lastly there used to be a sunroof offered with limited number of Corolla models in around 2000-01

You are right, the 7th gen Corolla (Indus Corolla) used to come in XE & GL trims which had the ancient 2E engine from ’84 model EE80.

Later on they launched the 1600 cc Toyota Corolla GLi which had the 4A-FE engine. But I do not remember any change to the number of gears. Both XE and GLi used to be 5-gear manual. There was a UG model which was available in auto gear + the upholstery under the roof was also different. The GLi also had crystal lights, later on the XE models also came fitted with crystal lights.

The details are also on CSP https://carspiritpk.com/7th-generation-corolla-e100-popular-corolla-pakistan/

Re: the “shifted Altis [1.8] to CVT in 2017 for the current shape (11th gen). Prior 2014-2017 was a conventional auto”, they changed to CVT only in the 1800 cc model.
The is Altis 1.6 also but it is continue with the U340E 4-spd forward gearbox since 2014 to 2022 and they’re still selling it with the same.

Just as a public service message, the 1600 cc U340E gearbox uses Toyota WS fluid, whereas the U441E auto-gear in the XLi/GLi uses the conventional ATF-IV. Some mechanics put the World-Standard in GLi and then the gearbox goes kaput.

I was speaking about 7th generation Corolla which is also known as Indus Corolla in Pakistan and Indus decided to continue assembling it rather than launching 8th generation. However, they compensated the step by introducing electronic fuel injectors in the engine I think its code was 4A-FE or something, I am not sure but it had E.F.I. stamped on its trunk lid in gold emblem. Even the engine head had E.F.I. written over it.

As for 9th generation, the only thing that I can recall is the fact of 1.6L engine was discontinued in favour of 1.8L engine in post-facelift models, which was ironic, the SE Saloon version got famous for returning a good fuel average. It is the most sought after Corolla now a days among people seeking a budget friendly car. Anyways, I believe you are right, I.M.C. is going to have to take into account several factors even if they do decide on continue offering 11th generation. In particular the Grande because the name is considered upscale.

They shifted Altis to CVT in 2017 for the current shape (11th gen). Prior 2014-2017 was a conventional auto.
Or are you talking about 9th gen? I’m not aware of that change. Please tell us more about it.

Euro5 is coming soon, they’ll have to at least change some things. Maybe they can offer other upgrades too.

I agree with your point.
However, I hope that the I.M.C. would at-least increase the number of gears and improve the engine’s compression ratio in current model Altis. They did it when they decided to prolong the assembly of Indus Corolla.

On the other hand, the hairy mustache like front look of the Yaris coupled with its high price is somewhat denting its sales. Moreover, in my opinion I.M.C. did another stupidity, they offered an engine that’s taxed as per higher rate, had they assembled the vehicle under 1,300 CC engine, it may have done better.
