Alto On Diet: Cheaper & 100kg Lighter in Coming Yearshttps://www.pakwheels.com/blog/alto-on-diet-cheaper-100kg-lighter-in-coming-years/
Jul 18, 2024

The summary is that Suzuki wants to reduce the weight of its hatchbacks by 15% over the next decade to enable lighter batteries and smaller motors.
It also mentions the latest engine by Suzuki the Z12E.

It seems to be purely SEO exercise. It has received over 20,000 clicks as represented by the “flaming hot” symbol. The article completely chooses to ignore the point that the website is named “Pak” wheels. The latest and greatest tech news shared in the PR campaign by “Tatsuya Matsushita, an executive in charge of Suzuki’s automotive technology” has been highlighted and random off-topic fawning over the Z12E engine has been included as a side-detail, but the article completely chooses to ignore the fact the the 8th generation Alto being sold by PakSuzuki – a wholly Suzuki-Japan owned company after their delisting from the stock exchange – in Pakistan is a globally obsolete model without any facelift, tech/safety/feature upgrades. This is not to mention that the other products on offer by PakSuzuki, a 100% Japanese-owned company are also obsolete by several decades.
I don’t understand keeping in view the track record of PakSuzuki, the benefits of the amazing future goals shared by Tatsuya Matsushita will probably never materialize in Pakistan then why publish an article about it?
Sadism?
Schadenfreude?
Or does the writer just want to make fun of the helplessness of the Pakistani audience?

Mild Hybrid Suzuki Alto With 37km/l Average – First Look Review25 June 2024

This 9th gen Suzuki Alto has appeared in Pakistan in the form of (used/new?) JDM orphan import. Read the article and watch the video to know more about the impressions of the reviewer.

My own impression: After watching the video, tbh I don’t think we are missing anything by not having the newer Alto. All the shown safety features and comfort features are not assembled in our market anyway regardless the shape is older one or newer one. It is better for PakSuzuki to upgrade the existing Alto with projection headlights, CVT gear, rear headrests and sliding rear seat instead of the other 2 options: a) dragging the current one without change and b) bringing the new one all stripped out.

It was launched in 2014 and then replaced for the 2022 model year, it makes it 7 or 8 years. The kei segment in Japan is very competitive with over 50 trim levels for each popular model, billions of customization options and what not. Despite this competitive landscape it can be seen that the 8th gen Alto survived not only for the standard 5 years generational cycle but in fact longer than that.
Somebody should investigate the secret behind it and write an article on it too!

Doubt many Pakistani audiences will like the visual aesthetic of this one. Hard pass.

Good point, but there is nothing forcing them from doing so. We have to remember that in the end PakSuzuki and other car assembling companies here in Pakistan are just business companies, and they would prioritize making profit with the least effort and cost possible.

Currently, in Pakistan, there is no such automobile law in Pakistan to force car assemblers/manufacturers to periodically upgrade their vehicle lineups or replace them with the newer entry in a given time period. So even if PakSuzuki does all of this, it would be completely out of market altruism or as a marketing stunt, which isn’t very realistic or economical in their regards, unfortunately for us.

As long as there’s nothing stopping them from doing so, they’ll keep selling the same thing even for 30 years without any change. That’s one of the biggest problems in our automobile industry.

From my side, I feel like instead of spending R&D effort and money on bringing this vehicle up-to-the-mark for our broken roads and fuel (such as raised ride height etc.), Pak Suzuki should just improve on the existing 8th gen Alto, they should make ABS as standard in all trims, offer a UG trim as well with special colours and gadgets and improved safety (more airbags) and projector headlights, plus a beige interior.

So instead of 2 extremes a) an entirely new car or b) keeping the existing, they take a middle path and upgrade the existing offering – not only cosmetic facelift – but real technical improvements which would improve the users experience of comfort, safety and fuel economy.
