BYD, a global leader in innovative energy solutions and a pioneer in zero-emission mobility in the Philippines, graced the 2023 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) with a 100% range of all-electric vehicles, becoming the only brand to do so at this year’s show.
Through its authorized local distributor Solar Transport and Automotive Resources Corp, BYD in addition to launching its premium all-electric vehicles, showcased the Blade Battery, a game-changer in the EV market in terms of safety and efficiency, at the 2023 MIAS.
BYD Han
The spotlight was, of course, the Han EV, BYD’s flagship electric sedan. The 76.9kWh Blade Battery in this midsize luxury vehicle can be charged in as little as 39 minutes using a DC fast charger or in around 8 hours with an AC charger. It has a maximum power output of 163kW (218.6hp) at the front wheels and 200kW (268.2hp) at the rear wheels and a zero to 100km/h acceleration time of only 3.9 seconds. The estimated drive range is 550 km.

BYD also brought the Tang EV at MIAS 2023, a 7-seater electric SUV with an 82.8kWh battery that goes full in 40 minutes when plugged into a DC fast charger or in around 8 hours via AC charger. It reaches a top speed of 180kph, covers 500km before a recharge, and can sprint from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.6 seconds. The Tang EV is priced at P3,698,000 and is available in French Red and Timo White.

Last but not least is the BYD Dolphin, a 5-seater electric hatchback powered by a 44.9kWh battery. It may be charged in up to 7 hours using an AC charger or as quickly as 30 minutes using a DC fast charger. BYD claims that the all-electric Dolphin has a top speed of 130 km/h, a range of 400 km on a single charge, and a zero to 50 km/h acceleration time of 3.9 seconds. The BYD Dolpshin is priced at P1,688,000.
Speaking at the event, Mark Andrew Tieng, President and CEO of Solar Transport, said that electric vehicles are becoming an “increasingly popular form of transportation” and are vital in the “journey toward sustainable transportation,” adding that BYD has contributed immensely to cutting down carbon emissions. In fact, as of April 13, 2023, BYD has saved 31,941,212,881 kilograms of carbon emissions equivalent to planting around 900 million trees. Tieng said:
“With leading technologies and innovations, such as Blade Batteries, and e-Platform 3.0, BYD’s EVs have a longer range, making them a more practical option not only for city driving but also for longer trips. They have a longer lifespan and can be charged conveniently at home or on the go. Thanks to the growing network of charging stations in the Philippines, an EV will definitely be functional for day-to-day driving and practical to own in the long run.”
