Very true. You can check their Toyota website. Toyota in Ghana sells the Toyota agya. A small hatchback that can compete in Pakistan against the like of the Suzuki wagonR or Cultus or the Kia picanto.

Also one other thing I missed, in Ghana Toyota is selling the latest 12th gen Corolla already and on the Nigeria Toyota site, the 12th gen is already displayed meaning it will be coming there soon as well. The non hybrid versions in both cases mind you.

Why are we still getting the 11th gen?! 😡😀

Even in countries like Ghana and Nigeria you may ironically find more variety than what you find here. At least they have their imports open 🀣🀣🀣 Nigeria specially. Nigeria’s car market is crazy.

we make customers for generations = we deliberately keep the production capacity low so that the waiting period remains long enough that the father makes the booking and the son gets the delivery. It is a generational transaction.

https://tribune.com.pk/story/1789925/indus-motor-announces-rs3-3b-investment

The above article is from 2018. IMC made claims back then to increase capacity to 76,000. now in 2022 they are again making the same claim.

https://www.thenews.com.pk/print/894798-imc-cranking-up-capacity-20pc-next-year-amid-likely-record-2021-output#:~:text=KARACHI%3A%20Driven%20by%20all%2Dtime%20high%20demand%2C%20Indus%20Motors%20Company%20(IMC)%20is%20expanding%20production%20capacity%20to%20reach%2090%2C000%20units%20by%202022%20end%2C%20a%20top%20official%20said%20on%20Thursday.

Here is another article which states IMC’s commitment to increasing capacity to 90,000 in 2022. Yet now it is 2022 and we are again hearing the old 76,000 figure.

https://www.thenews.com.pk/print/894798-imc-cranking-up-capacity-20pc-next-year-amid-likely-record-2021-output#:~:text=KARACHI%3A%20Driven%20by%20all%2Dtime%20high%20demand%2C%20Indus%20Motors%20Company%20(IMC)%20is%20expanding%20production%20capacity%20to%20reach%2090%2C000%20units%20by%202022%20end%2C%20a%20top%20official%20said%20on%20Thursday.

This article IMC “celebrates their highest ever production figure of 65,000. They further boasted of achieving 90,000 by 2022. Yet here we are in 2022 and again stuck with the two year old figure of 76,000.

Really shows IMC’s “commitment” to the grift and doing nothing.

“Like we say at Toyota, we don’t make customers for life, we make customers for generations.”

https://carspiritpk.com/cant-even-avail-auto-financing-whos-buying-all-these-cars/

β€œWhen asked about the impact of high interest rates on the sale of new cars, he said, β€œI am sure that the impact of rising interest rates on car sales through bank financing will not be so intense as long as the old tradition of high demand and low supply from the assemblers continues to persist in the future as well.””

Keeping in mind the way they have manipulated, isolated and shaped the market, what the person said in the above quote is why our auto industry is in such bad shape. “old tradition of high demand and low supply.”

I wish I could find that old TV interview of Toyota CEO Jamali and the head of the parts manufacturing association on one of the local cable TV news channels. The guy says this very thing to Jamali. His answer really drives home just how much power they have. He just blatantly says that it is his company and he will do as he pleases and no one can tell him different.

One million assembly in almost thirty years. Should we celebrate that or be concerned? Complete ignoring and undermining of Pakistan’s deletion policy for decades. Should we celebrate that or be concerned? No model as yet full localized in its production in all this time. all major parts still imported. Should we celebrate that or be concerned? Even hybrid assembly a distant pipe dream hijacked on the condition of more demands and leniencies from the government. We Should Be concerned!

Customers, I don’t know. but in my view they are making slaves of generations… hooked on garbage they cant sell anywhere else; which they sell to us at what ever price hits their fancy.

Ok. Let’s put it this way. We love our mobile phones. Samsung or apple, the two biggest names. When a new Samsung Galaxy s or note comes out or a new iphone comes out, do you still pay the full or more than the full asking price for the old outgoing model or do stores and companies offer deals on the old phones to sell them at discounted rates?

Similarly, here we are being sold the old 11th gen, which is now an almost decade old car for very high prices. In markets around the region the new 12th gen is being sold at similar or better prices. In japan the 12 gen hybrid with all options included (radar cruse control, collision section and avoidance, front and rear parking sensors, rain sensing wipers and auto high beams to name just a few of them) sells for the same price as the bare bones 1.8 altis with only two airbags does in pakistan. Same is the case with markets like Thailand or indonesia etc. Is that fair?

Toyota Indus is an importer of parts. Engine included. Tell me then, why did these desi Jap assemblers make such a fuss over shifting to euro 5. They import engines. they could have easily shifted over. If cost is the argument then consider this, toyota Indus is ordering engines that start life as euro 5 engines. They are downgraded to euro 2 engines and brought
to Pakistan. Meaning that more resources are required to downgrade the engine to euro 2. That adds costs. Won’t just getting the engines in their original euro 5 configuration and using them in cars here be cheaper? Yet we are forced to endure euro 2 for some reason with no explanation demanded by people or the government. Is that fair?

We are forced to buy these cars at extreme premiums because these companies are not assembling to their full capacity, prompting the own culture. Is that fair?

Sorry for the long rant but no friend. We are part of the globe, but we are the literal dumping ground for old tech for the Japs. Just like a lot of countries in africa like nigeria or ghana etc. And that too is sold to us at extreme and unfair markups. Is that fair? That is the point here…
