New Tata Tigor EV Launched in India

Tata has launched the new Tigor EV in India expanding its portfolio in the electric vehicle segment. This is Tata’s second EV in the passenger vehicle segment (for private buyers) and also the second Tata after Nexon EV to feature the state-of-the-art Ziptron high voltage electric architecture.

Available in three variants – XE, XM, and XZ+ the new Tata Tigor EV in India is priced as INR 11.99 lac (PKR 27.32 lac) for the base XE, INR 12.49 lac (PKR 28.46 lac) for the mid-level XM variant while the range-topping XZ+ trim has been priced at INR 12.99 lac (PKR 29.6 lac) but if you want to opt for the dual-tone model, it will cost you INR 13.14 lac (PKR 29.94 lac). Tata is offering an 8-year and 1,60,000 km warranty on the battery as well as the motor.

Highlights of the new Tigor EV include the Ziptron powertrain that features an electric architecture operating at 300+ volts, which is way ahead of the previous iteration of the model released in 2019 that came equipped with a 72-volt system. The setup includes a front e-motor (with a single-speed transmission) providing 74 hp (55 kW) of power and 170 Nm of torque, which helps the Tigor EV to reach from 0 to 60 km/h in just 5.7 seconds. Powering the e-motor (that also provides regenerative braking) is a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery pack with an energy capacity of 26 kWh, which is good for 306 km of driving range, certified by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI). This is again, an improvement over the 21.5-kWh battery used in previous model that offered a range of 213 km.

The equipment list includes 14-inch wheels with low rolling resistance 175/65 tires, projector headlamps, LED DRLs, LED taillights, fog lamps fabric upholstery, automatic air-conditioning, key-less entry & start and a cooled glove box. For entertainment, the XM variant comes with a 3.5-inch system by Harman and four speakers while the top XZ+ comes equipped with a larger 7-inch touchscreen along with four additional tweeters, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, steering-mounted controls and a reverse camera instead of just sensors.

As for safety, the Tigor EV gets dual airbags, ABS, EBD and ESC, and boasts an impressive 4-star safety rating from Global NCAP (GNCAP). The Tigor EV is also the first EV ever tested by GNCAP, and it certainly impressed Alejandro Furas, secretary general of Global NCAP, who said:

“Tata has shown consistent safety improvements throughout its fleet range. The Tigor demonstrates that improvements are also possible with EV models, which can pose a technical challenge because of the electric powertrain system. Tata should be recognized and applauded for this commitment to improving their vehicles in response to Global NCAP’s call to democratize vehicle safety.”
