Recently I sat in a CVT Alto in a Careem car. It was an orphaned JDM import. The difference between CVT & AGS is day and night. I never liked CVT in any other car either but this time what a pleasure ride (experienced as a passenger), no engine sound, always low engine RPM and suitable pickup. The silence is the most mention-worthy thing about it.

But what can we expect. In Japan the low grade F & VP trims have manual & AGS options, VVT-less engine (it gives 48 hp there but 39 hp here), previously discussed here https://carspiritpk.com/pak-suzuki-alto-sets-another-sales-record/#comment-10138 and here https://carspiritpk.com/jdm-alto-vs-pak-suzuki-alto-660cc/#comment-14390. Even the Turbo RS is available with AGS.

It is suitable time the PakSuzuki offers a higher trim level above VXL with CVT gear, they can call it LE, SE or any other name.

Oh and in the end the compulsory bit about environmentalism: the upper trim levels come with Exhaust Gas Re-circulation (EGR) which means lower emissions, lower engine temperatures but more piping which our mechanics will never understand. And greater engine maintenance iff running on poor quality fuel. If PakSuzuki intro’s EGR, Alto can quickly jump from Euro 2 to Euro 5 emissions standard but your number of trips to the mechanics will also increase.

While it is good that they came up with ABS, the requirement of projection headlights remains. Recently I traveled long-route and it was a very good experience when Changan Karvaan (a lot of them in Punjab) coming from opposite side. They have very good projector headlamps and do not dazzle or burn the eyes. It is imperative that the best-selling vehicle of the market should be fitted with better tech to make a better road safety and road experience for all users of the road. They can fit the projection lights from Alto Turbo RS and Alto Works and call it a day.

Nonono, not the CVT, just the AGS, which is an attachment, a pseudo-robot which moves the clutch & shifter. CVT is bad but AGS is worse.

Suzuki can very easily bring in the Ertiga or the XL7. In the age where demand for affordable family movers is rising, they can actually bring some much needed cheap family options to the market. They could introduce the Xbee or even the wagor-R or Hustler, giving them the edge. Instead they just do this crap and call it a day.😤
