BYD Seal Launched in Malaysia

BYD has formally launched the Seal electric sedan in Malaysia. Available in two variants, RWD Premium, and Performance AWD, the 2024 BYD Seal is priced at RM179,800 (PKR 1.04 crore) and RM199,800 (PKR 1.16 crore). The first 800 customers will enjoy complimentary wall box chargers and free charging credits worth RM800 (PKR 46,620).

Based on an advanced e-platform 3.0, the Seal is said to be the brand’s first model equipped with the innovative CTB (cell-to-body) technology which integrates the Blade Battery coupled with a revolutionary iTAC technology.

The iTAC intelligent torque adaptation control system ensures optimal performance in varying driving conditions, while the 50:50 front and rear axle load distribution ensures a more balanced and responsive driving experience. It is also the world’s first mass-produced 8-in-1 electric powertrain system.

The RWD Premium variant is powered by a single rear-wheel drive electric motor capable of making 310 hp of power and 360 Nm of torque, which allows the Seal to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. The 82 kWh BYD Blade Battery pack offers a range of 650 km (on the WLTP cycle).

On the other hand, the Performance AWD variant is powered by a dual-drive electric motor capable of making 530 hp and 670 Nm, enabling the EV to hit 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds. The 82 kWh BYD Blade Battery pack in this variant offers a range of 580 km (on the WLTP cycle). When it comes to charging, both support up to 150kW ensuring that drivers can quickly recharge and get back on the road. The cool thing is that the 0-100 km/h figures are mentioned below the BYD Seal emblem on the trunk lid.

Both variants are equipped with 19-inch wheels and come equipped with the iTAC intelligent torque adaptation control system, helping the Seak deliver optimal performance in diverse driving conditions. According to the company, its 50:50 front and rear axle load distribution ensures balanced and responsive driving.

The car, rooted in the “Ocean Aesthetics” philosophy, is designed by BYD’s global chief designer Wolfgang Egger. It is inspired by the “X” concept which combines style and performance with its aerodynamic, coupe-like design to enhance both appeal and efficiency. Feature highlights include a wave waistline, waterdrop mirrors, panoramic glass roof, and LED tail light.

Inside, the BYD Seal boasts modern automotive technology, featuring a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen (that can be adjusted in portrait or landscape orientations) at the center of its cabin for navigation, entertainment, and various vehicle settings. The BYD intelligent cockpit system works with the BYD App for improved connectivity and control. Voice command functionality makes interacting with the vehicle’s system easy. It also includes a premium HIFI Dynaudio sound system for excellent audio quality and an advanced PM2.5 filtration system for clean air inside the cabin, prioritizing occupants’ health and well-being.
