Toyota has updated the Yaris range in order to comply with more stringer Eco Car Phase-2 regulations in Thailand. Eco Car Phase-2 requires vehicles to be more fuel efficient as well as lower emissions than the Phase-1.
To achieve that, Toyota has revised the engine offering to 1.2 liter 3NR-FKE four-cylinder engine instead of the 3NR-FE. Although the displacement remains same but the Dual VVT-i has been upgraded to Dual VVT-iE, while the compression ratio is now 13.5:1, up from 11.5:1. Output figures are also improved from 86 hp & 108 Nm to 92 hp & 109 Nm.
Auto engine start/ stop feature comes as standard while the engine is paired to a Super CVT-i automatic. Additional equipment including a new 6.7 inch touchscreen and front/rear video recorder are also on offer. In terms of safety ABS/EBD/BA, VSC, Hill Start Assist and 7 airbags (front, side, curtain, driver’s knee) are available as standard equipment across the range.
Although the outlook remains unchanged, customer can modify their cars into a crossover inspired package which consists of front and rear black bumper skirting, SUV-inspired silver “skid plates”, matching side skirts, blackwheel arch cladding and blacked-out roof.
The Yaris Cross rides on 16” dual tone rims and gets a unique spring and dampers setup, which gives it an obvious 30 mm lift. There is a ‘Cross’ logo at the tailgate marking its identity. The Yaris Cross isn’t a standalone variant, but a pack of accessories that can be added on to the regular car.
