Maruti Suzuki has announced to have sold over 2.3 million units of Swift in Indian market ever since it was first introduced back in 2005. Not only this, the Swift has managed to come on top as the bestselling car in India for the year 2020.
Over 160,700 units of Swift were sold in a year that was hit hard by COVID-19 pandemic with sales being shut for more than a month. Furthermore the diesel variants of the hatchback were discontinued with the introduction of BS6 compliant models in 2020.
Commenting on accomplishing the milestone, Shashank Srivastava, the Executive Director (Marketing & Sales) at Maruti Suzuki said:
“Swift has been the bestselling premium hatchback in the country for the past 15 years with over 2.3 million delighted customers. Despite the adverse impact of COVID-19, Swift sold over 160,700 units in calendar year 2020, emerging as the top brand in the pecking order. We take this opportunity to thank our loyal customers for their constant support and trust in brand Swift. I am confident that with continuous customer support Swift will successfully achieve many more milestones in future.”
The latest generation of Swift was introduced in India in February 2018. It then set a record of selling 100,000 units in just 145 days of its launch and went on to surpass 200,000 units sales milestone within 350 days. It was also crowned with the Indian Car of the Year award for year 2019.
The Swift for the Indian market comes powered by a 1.2-liter K12M 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 82hp of power and 113Nm of torque and is paired to either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic gearbox. Maruti is about to introduce a facelift for the Swift in India in coming months that will boast cosmetic updates, additional features and new & more powerful K12N Dualjet engine.
