All New Honda N-BOX Debuts in Japan

Ahead of the kei car’s market debut this autumn, Honda has unveiled the all-new third-generation N-Box in Japan. As before, the 2024 Honda N-Box will continue to come in two guises, Standard and Custom.

While the second-generation model (launched in 2017) featured chrome bars, the standard version of the all-new 3rd-gen N-Box gets a redesigned grille with a variety of tiny holes. The headlamps are also brand-new and feature circular LED daytime running lights that are stated to be “shaped like a human eye to express simplicity and friendliness.”

A small air intake is located beneath the grille, while another intake and optional fog lamps are merged into a black trim piece that covers almost the whole lower apron. Customers who want their N-Box to have a little more personality can choose the Fashion Style package, which includes two-tone wheel caps and off-white side mirrors and door handles.

The N-Box Custom may be the right choice for individuals looking for something a little sportier thanks to its wider grille that integrates the upper intake slit and has a more textured insert. Additionally, the Custom version gets new headlights with horizontal DRLs and direct-projection LEDs (a first for Honda). The lower apron of the front and rear bumpers also have additional trim garnish, which is not included in the standard variant.

There is a Coordination Style package, which is an additional option for the Custom, and includes a variety of monotone & two-tone color schemes in addition to a dark chrome-plated grille insert, a rear license plate garnish, black aluminum wheels, and other features.

The N-Box’s dashboard has been totally redesigned on the interior, and the high-mounted instrument cluster has been condensed into a 7-inch digital display to improve outward visibility. A module that houses a brand-new (and first for the N series) 9-inch Honda Connect infotainment system has been added below the passenger-side air vents.

The repackaging also makes it possible to install a glove box that is much bigger and is said to have twice as much storage space. The rear seat side pockets, on the other hand, have slots at the bottom so that passengers can more easily see what’s within. Honda claims that the N-Box continues to provide best-in-class interior space due to the company’s continuous adherence to the man maximum, machine minimum (M/M) principle.

All N-Box grades in Japan will include Honda Sensing as standard equipment, as well as sliding doors with manual sunshades, front and side airbags, keyless entry, and an electronic parking brake (with auto brake hold).

Although the automaker hasn’t yet released technical details, the official website indicates that the N-Box will be offered with both naturally aspirated and turbocharged engines, as well as front- or all-wheel drive. The model will only receive engines of 660 cc or less in displacement due to its kei car categorization. Additionally, it won’t be any bigger than the current N-Box, which has dimensions of 3,395 mm long, 1,475 mm broad, and 1,815 mm tall (AWD version).
