Chery is all set to launch a new flagship SUV called the Tiggo 9, which will be slotted above the Tiggo 8 – currently the largest SUV in Chery’s model lineup.
Chery Tiggo 9
Crossovers & SUVs developed by Chery are positioned under the Tiggo brand name, and the range currently consists of not less than 14 vehicles. Being a flagship 7-seat SUV, Tiggo 9 will be the largest – measuring in at 4,820/1,930/1,699 mm, with a 2,820 mm wheelbase.
For the sake of comparison, the 3rd gen Kia Sorento we have here measures 4,760/1,890/1,685 mm and has a 2,780 mm wheelbase. This makes the Chery Tiggo 9 considerably larger than the Kia Sorento.
The Tiggo 9 boasts an imposing stance with a fascia featuring a large vertically slatted grille and an illuminated Chery logo. Side profiles show us a high waistline, black pillars, a floating roof, and a short front overhang. Other highlights are pop-out door handles, a rear spoiler, and 19 or 20-inch wheels depending on the variant.
The rear gets slim connected tail lamps with Chery wordmark in between. The neatly carved bumper has squarish chromic exhausts on either side.
Spy shots of the interior show us a wide curved screen, a wireless charging pad for two phones, storage space under the center tunnel, and a sporty 3-spoke flat-bottom multi-function steering wheel. Under the hood, the Chery Tiggo 9 will get a new 2.0L four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that churns out 261 hp. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to all four wheels.
Chery Tiggo 9 will have its first public appearance at the 2022 Guangzhou Auto Show starting later this week. It will go on sale in the Chinese car market in Q1, 2023 with the price expected to start around 160,000 yuan (PKR 51.98 lac).
