Dongfeng to Set the Market Ablaze with eπ 007 EV Sedan

Dongfeng has started taking order bookings for its latest electric vehicle named the eπ 007, with prices starting at just 159,000 yuan (around $22,400/ Rs 62.7 lac), which appears to be a very impressive deal.

With its sleek and aerodynamic appearance, the eπ 007 is a fashionable four-door electric fastback with a low drag coefficient of just 0.209 Cd. Its lower-mounted primary headlight clusters and slender LED daytime running lights are similar to those of many other Chinese EVs.

Other notable elements of the design include flush door handles, slim full-width LED taillights, and a retractable spoiler. Customers even have the option to equip the eπ 007 with scissor doors which are available as part of a special optional package priced at 22,000 yuan ($3,100) offered for the higher-end 620Pro and 540 Max variants.

The eπ 007 sedan measures 4,880 mm long, 1,895 mm wide, and stands 1,460 mm tall with a 2,915 mm wheelbase. This makes it considerably larger than the 11th-gen Honda Civic we have here which measures 4,674/ 1,801/ 1,415 mm and has a 2,736 mm wheelbase.

Inside, the dashboard features a 15.6-inch infotainment display, while in front of the driver, there’s an 8.8-inch driving cluster that can flip around.

The eπ 007 sedan gets front 8-point massage seats, a 64-color ambient lighting system, a premium sound setup featuring no fewer than 20 speakers, convenient 50W wireless charging, a panoramic roof, and facial recognition for door unlocking. It also gets a comprehensive array of 38 sensors that enable various functions, including memory parking, remote control parking, and the company’s advanced driving assistance system.

Regarding the powertrain, the eπ 007 is offered in pure-electric (BEV) as well as range extender (EREV) guises. The base 53-Pro variant features a 56.83 kWh battery pack, a rear electric motor with 215 hp (160 kW) and 310 Nm of torque. It boasts a driving range of up to 530 km on a single charge and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds.

The mid-range 620Pro variant comes equipped with a larger 70.26 kWh battery pack, a 268 hp (200 kW) rear electric motor, and 320 Nm of torque. It can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds and offers an extended range of up to 620 km on a single charge. Sitting atop the range is the performance-focused 540 Max version featuring the same 70.26 kWh battery pack and two electric motors delivering a combined 536 hp (400 kW) and 640 Nm of torque. This variant accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 3.9 seconds and can run 540 km on a single charge.

Dongfeng also offers a range-extender (EREV) version called 200Pro, which incorporates a 1.5L engine, a 28.39 kWh battery, and utilizes the same 215 hp (160 kW) and 310 Nm rear electric motor as the base model. This version can travel up to 200 km purely on electric power or an impressive 1,200 km with the 1.5L engine serving as a range extender.

While the Dongfeng eπ 007 sedan looks extremely impressive and comes with a catchy price tag too, it remains to be seen if it is offered in markets outside of China.
