Haval and Chery Enters Top 10 in South African Sales Charts

Chery and Haval have once again placed in the top 10 sales spots, demonstrating how appealing they are to South African consumers looking for affordable options.  While Toyota’s position at the top of the sales charts remains unshaken, the Chinese duo’s sales performance has been really impressive in less than a couple of years of presence in the South African market.

With only 38 total units separating them, Chery and Haval are fighting it out in one of their most closely contested months to date. In January, Haval saw 1,463 units sold in South Africa whereas Chery was right at its tail with 1,425 units. More importantly, the Chinese newcomers have pushed the South Korean Kia out of the top 10, pushing it to 11th place with 1,344 units sold in January 2024.

Chinese automakers may rise higher on the list as new models from Chery and Haval are anticipated to be released in South Africa in the coming months. Analysts believe more entry-level and reasonably priced vehicles that target consumers with budgets around ZAR 250,000 (PKR 36.9 lac) would be a good way for Chinese manufacturers to increase their overall market share.
