There has been quite a rapid development in the automobile sector of Pakistan recently, with the launch of new Toyota Hilux Revo & Fortuner, followed by Suzuki Vitara, and the possible launch of Suzuki Ciaz sedan & Celerio hatchback. The latest development is from Honda Atlas which is all set to launch the BR-V mini SUV in Pakistan.
Honda has been filming the BR-V TV commercial at Mubarak Village location recently.
Honda has been teasing the upcoming vehicle on social media & so far hasn’t disclosed the name of the vehicle. However it is evident from the teaser images that the vehicle is actually BR-V, also notice the second image in which we have put a frontal image of BR-V with reduced opacity. Sources also reveal that Honda has been filming the BR-V TV commercial at Mubarak Village location recently.
The abbreviation BR-V stands for Bold Runabout Vehicle. The BR-V shares its platform with the Mobilio MPV, Brio hatchback and the Amaze saloon, and sits below the Honda HR-V. The BR-V comes equipped with 1.5 liter L15Z1 i-VTEC engine producing 115hp mated to either a 6-speed manual or CVT transmission.
It is already available in Indonesia, Thailand, India, Malaysia and the Philippines. And since it is placed below the HR-V in these markets, we expect the price tag to be cheaper than the HR-V here in Pakistan. However the HR-V has not done well for Honda Atlas in terms of sales so pricing for the BR-V matters a lot.
While there has been an increase in the available car buying options in our market, we are yet to see affordable hatchbacks and saloons being offered by these companies. Most of the cars launched so far are placed in a high-price territory and out of the reach of many. It would be good if Honda Atlas considers launching the likes of Brio & Amaze and target the lower budget market just like they did almost 20 years ago with the launch of the City SX8.
