Hyundai Teases Another EV in Pakistan Ahead of Launch

Hyundai Nishat has been hinting at the introduction of electric vehicles (EVs) in Pakistan. The automaker recently teased us with a silhouette of the Ioniq 6 EV, but now things are getting interesting as the company has teased us with yet another EV.

This time it’s their other award-winning EV, the Ioniq 5, a similar silhouette that was teased on Hyundai’s social handles. The official unveiling is scheduled to take place in one day, as revealed in the social posts. Like its sibling, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV has bagged several awards which in addition to a number of Car of the Year accolades, also include the award for its powertrain which is among Ward’s top 10 best propulsion systems in the world.

It is also available in several Asian markets and has received ample praise. Across the border, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is priced at INR 46.05 lac (PKR 153.91 lac) and comes equipped with a 72.6kWh battery pack powering a rear-axle-mounted motor with an output of 216 hp and 350 Nm. The claimed driving range is 631 km on a single charge. The Ioniq 5 also offers Level 2 ADAS along with a V2L charging function, 20-inch alloy wheels, two 12.3-inch screens, and 6 airbags.

In the past few months, Pakistan has seen the introduction of a wide range of electric vehicles (EVs), the majority of which are priced at or above Rs 8.5 million. These pricey CBU imported cars appear to have become a lifeline for local auto assemblers, helping them to make respectable profits in these worse economic times, as sales of domestically assembled automobiles have collapsed.
