Hyundai Unveils the Flagship Ioniq 9 Electric SUV

Hyundai has unveiled the Ioniq 9, a highly anticipated three-row electric SUV that serves as the brand’s counterpart to the Kia EV9. Built on the versatile E-GMP platform, also used in various Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis models, the Ioniq 9 offers impressive capabilities and configurations.

The all-new Hyundai Ioniq 9 is powered by a substantial 110.3 kWh battery, available in three configurations. The base Long Range RWD model features a single rear-mounted motor producing 214 hp (160 kW) and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque, delivering a WLTP range of up to 385 miles (620 km) with 19-inch wheels.

For added performance, the Long Range AWD variant includes a front motor generating an additional 94 hp (70 kW) and 188 lb-ft (255 Nm) of torque. At the top of the lineup, the Ioniq 9 Performance boasts dual 214 hp (160 kW) motors, enabling 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) acceleration in 5.2 seconds, compared to 6.7 seconds for the AWD model and 9.4 seconds for the RWD version. All models have a top speed of 124 mph (200 km/h).

Charging is equally impressive, with all variants supporting 10-80% recharging in just 24 minutes using a 350 kW charger. Additionally, the Ioniq 9 offers a vehicle-to-load (V2L) charging feature for enhanced versatility.

The Hyundai Ioniq 9 draws design inspiration from the SEVEN Concept, showcasing similarities like Parametric Pixel lights seen across the Ioniq lineup. Despite its substantial size, it achieves an impressive drag coefficient of 0.259 Cd, aided by optional digital wing mirrors.

Breaking new ground, the Ioniq 9 is the first Hyundai to eliminate a roof antenna, utilizing the windshield for GPS and satellite radio, the instrument panel for connected car services, and the tailgate glass for FM/AM radio. Buyers can choose from 19-, 20-, or 21-inch wheels, including flagship 21-inch “Calligraphy” wheels, and an array of 16 exterior colors.

The SUV’s massive 123.2-inch (3,130 mm) wheelbase translates to a spacious, luxurious cabin, perfect for long journeys. Premium materials enhance the interior, while a Santa Fe-inspired steering wheel integrates green LEDs to indicate remaining battery life.

Standard audio is provided by an eight-speaker system, with an optional 14-speaker Bose setup. It also includes multiple high-output 100-watt USB-C ports powered directly by the 110.3 kWh battery, bypassing the 12-volt battery.

The interior emphasizes sustainability, with eco-friendly materials such as recycled PET fabric, wool, and eco-process leather. The Ioniq 9 offers six- and seven-seat configurations, with second-row seats that swivel, similar to the Kia EV9.
