Proton’s newest sedan which for now known to us as S50, will be officially called Proton S70 thanks to the latest photos published on Paultan that show the car undisguised for the very first time while revealing its rear badge.
The car was seen while being shot for a television commercial (Porsche camera car also visible in photos) as Proton executives had previously stated that the newest sedan would be launched sooner than anticipated.
Based on the Geely Emgrand, a C-segment-sized vehicle that is constructed on the same B-segment BMA platform as the Proton X50. The new S70 is larger than rival B-segment sedans like the Toyota Vios (Yaris) and Honda City. The S70 only cosmetically differs from the donor Geely Emgrand model with a similar infinite weave grille as seen on other Proton siblings. The interior images of the S70 aren’t available yet but will likely be similar to the Emgrand apart from some minor variations.
Under the hood, the new Proton S70 sedan will likely get Geely’s 1.5L naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine with 113 hp of power & 147 Nm of torque, paired with either a 5-speed manual or CVT gearbox sending drive to the front wheels.
Proton’s latest breed of Geely-based models are exported to many countries around the world including Brunei, Pakistan, Kenya, and South Africa. We will have to wait & see when the S70 is made available for the export markets. Launch in Malaysia is expected to take place towards the end of this year.
