The Sindh government is considering making an initiative to provide electric vehicles (EVs) to unemployed youth through easy installment plans, combining efforts to tackle unemployment with a focus on environmental sustainability.
Under this program, young jobless individuals will have the opportunity to own and operate eco-friendly EV taxis, empowering them to earn a steady income while contributing to a cleaner environment.
Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has tasked the transport department with working closely alongside banks and financial institutions to create flexible financial models, ensuring accessible repayment plans and eventual ownership of the vehicles.
In a meeting with officials from a Karachi-based EV taxi assembly company, Memon was presented with insights into the environmental benefits of EVs. He reaffirmed that the initiative aligns with the provincial government’s mission to curb emissions and support economic stability through meaningful employment. The minister stated:
“The EV taxi scheme represents a dual-purpose solution—creating sustainable jobs for our youth and advancing our commitment to a greener future.”
The program is expected to roll out soon, with the first fleet of EV taxis aiming to provide affordable transport options for unemployed youth while enhancing environmentally conscious urban mobility.
