Automobile Sales Dipped 8% in FY-2019

Automobile sector of Pakistan is experiencing tough times as it recorded a slowdown in sales which dropped 8% to 237,950 units in fiscal year 2019. The ongoing massive depreciation of Pak Rupee against the US Dollar and imposition of additional duties and taxes have pushed the prices of automobiles beyond the reach of masses.

Sales of automobiles in Pakistan continued to show a decline in May 2019. Passenger and Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) saw an 18% decline in sales with 17,891 units sold, compared to 21,813 units sold in May, a year earlier.

Government Rejects Commercial Import of Used Cars

Government has rejected the proposal for commercial import of used cars in Pakistan. The Ministry of Industries and Production had given this suggestion to the Commerce Division and Federal Board of Revenue which are formulating import and re-export of used vehicle policy 2019-29.
