BYD has launched its popular Atto 3 EV in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) via its local dealer Al-Futtaim Electric. The Atto 3 is now up for pre-order in Dubai for AED 149,900 ($40,800 USD), making it the most affordable electric vehicle in the Emirates.
In addition, BYD started reservations for the flagship Han EV, which will go on sale in the UAE in October. Huang Zhixue, CEO of BYD’s Middle East and Africa, while speaking to Gulfnews, said:
“The UAE has a unique climate, so we deeply understand the importance of product localization. Last year, we conducted high-temperature tests to ensure that Atto 3 works at its best even in the region’s hot climate.”
BYD announced its partnership with dealer Al-Futtaim in March earlier this year. As part of the agreement, Al-Futtaim Group has pledged to make new energy vehicles (Chinese term for EVs and PHEVs) account for at least 50% of total vehicle sales by 2030, as well as to establish at least 3,000 charging stations around the UAE.
Atto 3 happens to be BYD’s flagship EV export, which is now selling successfully well in Thailand, Israel, Australia, and New Zealand. Deliveries have also recently begun in a number of additional nations, including the UK, Germany, India, Japan, Costa Rica, and Mexico.
Based on the datasheet for the UAE, the 60.48 kWh battery in the BYD Atto 3 has a 420 km WLTP range. While a 510 km CLTC range is also claimed for Atto 3 in China (sold as Yuan Plus in the domestic market). The 150 kW motor of the Atto 3 generates 310 Nm of torque and is driven by the e-platform 3.0. The impressive drag coefficient of just 0.29 Cd helps to achieve an acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h of only 7.3 seconds. Fast charging is supported by the EV, and it takes 30 minutes to charge the battery from 30 to 80%.
