In December 2022, images of Chery’s new flagship SUV called Tiggo 9 appeared on the internet. And now the Chinese automaker has officially released the first interior & exterior images of Tiggo 9 ahead of its expected public appearance at this year’s Shanghai Auto Show scheduled to open doors next month.
Chery uses the Tiggo name for a series of crossovers and SUVs. The Tiggo series currently counts 14 SUVs with lots of overlap in price and size. The lineup is expanding fast with plenty more to appear including the TJ-1 SUV, but for now, the Tiggo 9 will be slotted on top as the flagship model in Chery’s Tiggo lineup.

Although Chery has released photos of a 5-seat Tiggo 9, the flagship SUV will be available in both 5-seat and 7-seat configurations. In terms of dimensions, the Tiggo 9 is a large SUV measuring 4,820/1,930/1,699 mm with a 2,820 mm wheelbase. For the sake of comparison, the 3rd gen Kia Sorento we have here measures 4,760/1,890/1,685 mm and has a 2,780 mm wheelbase. This makes the Chery Tiggo 9 considerably larger than the Kia Sorento.

The Tiggo 9 boasts an imposing stance with a fascia featuring a large vertically slatted grille and an illuminated Chery logo. Side profiles show us a high waistline, black pillars, a floating roof, and a short front overhang. Other highlights are pop-out door handles, a rear spoiler, and 19 or 20-inch wheels depending on the variant. The rear gets slim connected tail lamps with Chery wordmark in between. The neatly carved bumper has squarish chromic exhausts on either side.
The dual-tone interior is impressive, the dashboard gets a dual-curved screen with a 12.3-inch LCD instrument panel and a 12.3-inch central control screen, below which there is an array of air vents along with an engine start/ top button. There is a multi-function steering besides which the gear selector is mounted. The center tunnel gets a wireless charging pad for two smartphones, a drive mode selector, and the stereo’s volume control. Below the tunnel is large storage space and USB ports.

The seats and upholstery mimic those found in expensive luxury SUVs. Overall, the interior looks classy & ambient with the smart use of lighter color tones, with ash grey used in ceiling, seats, and door trims, supported by silver brushed metal & fawn-colored elements, contrasting black with a touch of light blue strips. However understandably, this color scheme will be deployed in the high-end trims with regular ones to get a black interior.

Under the hood, the Tiggo 9 will get a 2.0L four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with an output of 261 hp and 390 Nm. The engine will come paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission with flappy paddles, sending horses to all 4 wheels. The top speed is rated at 205 km/h while combined fuel consumption is 7.7 liters per 100 kilometers (12.99 km/ liter).

As mentioned earlier, the all-new Chery Tiggo 9 will have its public debut at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show next month, and its launch on the Chinese car market is scheduled for May 2023. Official prices are yet to be revealed but according to Chinese media, they will start at around 170,000 yuan ($24,760).
