In a surprising turn of events, the 6th gen Honda City has emerged as the second bestselling locally assembled car in Pakistan behind the 660cc Suzuki Alto. The Toyota Corolla has held the title since the Alto overthrew it as the best-selling vehicle in 2019–20, with the Toyota Yaris holding the crown for around a year.
However, of late, sales of both Toyota Corolla and Yaris have taken a dip while City has witnessed a decent surge. As of the first 3 months of this calendar year (Jan-Mar quarter), Honda City has managed to find 3,450 buyers whereas, in contrast, the Toyota Corolla has only 1,830 units under its belt, and Yaris has even worse at just 1,593 during the discussed period.
This means that during the first quarter of this calendar year, sales of Honda City are a staggering 88% higher than Corolla, and 117% higher than its arch-rival Toyota Yaris. Honda’s average monthly sales since the start of CY24 (Civic+City combined) have increased to over 1,150 units thanks to the City’s soaring sales, up from this fiscal year’s average of less than 700 units. This sudden surge in sales of Honda City is unusual and has helped the company narrow its gap with the sales of the rival Toyota sedans.
