Hyundai Creta and Kona EV Wins Nigerian Car Of The Year 2021

The locally-assembled Hyundai Creta SUV has been named as the Nigerian Car of the Year (COTY) at this year’s 2021 Nigeria Auto Journalists Association (NAJA) Awards. Creta beat the Toyota Corolla and Kia Rio to win the prestigious automotive award at the yearly event held on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at the Eko Hotel and Suites on Victoria Island, Lagos.

This is the second time Hyundai Creta has won the COTY award since it was launched in the Nigerian market back in 2016, having earlier winning the title in 2018. The 2021 NAJA event also featured the crowning of Nigeria’s first ever electric car, the Hyundai Kona, as the Electric Car of the Year.

The event was attended by the leading stakeholders of the Nigeria’s automobile and road transport sector, including the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road safety Corps (FRSC), Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi and representative of the Director General of National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), Jelani Aliyu. Journey to 2021 NAJA Awards started with nomination of finalists by jury members of the Nigerian Auto Journalists Association. While the ultimate winners emerged from voting by Motoring journalists drawn from the nation’s leading print, electronic and digital media.
