Hyundai Exter Launched in India at INR 5.99 Lac

Hyundai has launched its smallest SUV, the Exter, in India with prices starting from INR 5.99 lac (ex-showroom). Slotted below the Venue mid-size SUV, the all-new Hyundai Exter is offered in 7 variants with petrol and CNG powertrain options.

The front grille and tailboard of Hyundai’s entry-level SUV, use the ‘parametric-jewel’ design aesthetic. The headlamp clusters are mounted on the bumper, and the ‘Exter’ inscription is visible on the front, while the H-shaped DRLs are positioned higher and parallel to the bonnet.

The Exter adopts an upright stance thanks to the roof rails, squared arches, and 15-inch alloy wheels. The Exter measures 3,815mm in length, 1,710mm in width, and 1,631mm in height. Additionally, the model’s 2,450mm wheelbase is longer than any of its competitors.

Although the Exter’s cabin is similar to the Aura and Nios‘, there are a lot of brand-new features. A 4.2-inch MID and 12 customizable languages are included in Exter’s digital instrument cluster. The inside is all black with a honeycomb pattern on the dashboard and a contrasting highlight on the circular air conditioning vents.

The Exter comes equipped with an electric sunroof, automatic climate control, a dash-mounted camera, connected car tech boasting over 60 Bluelink features that can be operated through smartphones or smartwatches, cruise control, and an 8-inch touchscreen unit with connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Also on offer are some segment-first features like footwell lighting, metal pedals, rear AC vents with power outlet, paddle shifter, and onboard navigation system.

On the safety front, the Hyundai Exter gets 6 airbags as standard across the range, as well as ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Vehicle Stability Management, Hill Assist Control, rear parking sensors, TPMS (Highline), and more.

Under the hood, the Hyundai Exter gets the same 1.2L petrol engine that serves duties on the Grand i10 Nios, Aura, and Venue. It is tuned to produce 82hp of power and 114Nm of torque and is mated to either a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. Furthermore, the powertrain is also offered in a CNG variant coupled with a manual gearbox.

According to Hyundai India, the manual transmission would give around 19.4 km/l of fuel efficiency, an automatic variant would give around 19.2 km/l (under test conditions) while the CNG version would give around 27 km/kg. The Hyundai Exter will rival the likes of Tata Punch, Citroen C3, and Maruti Suzuki Ignis in the Indian market. The ex-showroom prices of the 2023 Hyundai Exter are:
