IM Motors (which literally stands for Intelligence in Motion) is a joint venture between SAIC Motor, Alibaba, and Zhangjiang Hi-Tech has just launched its third product in the lineup, the LS6 in the Chinese market. Prior to its official launch, the LS6 managed to garner over 25,000 pre-orders.
The IM LS6 is a mid-size fastback electric SUV measuring 4,904/1,988/1,669 mm and has a wheelbase of 2,950 mm. While the profile looks like the Model Y, it is 154 mm longer than the Tesla. The IM LS6 has a sleek and streamlined body shape, relatively large droplet-shaped headlights, retractable door handles, and a unified taillight unit that sweeps past the ducktail spoiler at the back. The LS6’s drag coefficient is just 0.237 Cd.
Inside, the IM LS6 offers both a D-shaped conventional steering wheel and a steering yoke depending on the variant. The highlight of the interior is the sizeable 26.3-inch screen which acts like both a center screen and an instrument cluster. The LS6 also offers an optional 15.5-inch screen for the front passenger. Plus there is one more touchscreen at the central tunnel that allows for operating various vehicle functions. The drive model selector is located on the steering column. The cockpit has an NVIDIA Orin chip for its advanced driving assistance system.
The interior is genuinely spacious. According to IM Motors, the trunk capacity of LS6 is 665 liters which can be enhanced up to 1,640 liters with rear seats folded down. Being an EV, the LS6 also has a frunk with a 32-liter capacity.
The entry-level variant of LS6 gets a single electric motor on the rear axle for 314 hp and 450 Nm. The e-motor here is powered with a 71-kWh ternary (NMC) battery for 560 km of CLTC range. This variant can go from 0-100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. The second variant gets a relatively more powerful electric motor for 340 hp and 450 Nm. It also has a bigger battery for 90 kWh enabling a 680 km of CLTC range.

The third variant has a 515 hp/ 500 Nm electric motor on the rear axle and can sprint up to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds. The electric motor is paired with a 100-kWh battery good for 760 km of CLTC range. Finally, the range-topping variant offers 4WD for 787 hp and 800 Nm that helps accelerate from 0-100 km/h in only 3.5 seconds. The 100-kWh battery gives it 702 km of CLTC range.
The introductory price of IM LS6 ranges between 214,900 – 276,900 yuan ($29,430 – $37,920). It will compete against the Nio EC6, Tesla Model Y, Rising R7, and a flurry of other EV models in the highly competitive Chinese market.
