At a press conference titled “Policy towards Carbon Neutrality at the Global and National Levels” through “Multi-pathways to Carbon Neutrality,” Isuzu revealed its plans to manufacture electric pickup trucks in Thailand for export. These will begin in 2025 with countries in the European Union and be progressively expanded to other markets based on regulations and each nation’s progress toward becoming carbon neutral.
Isuzu unveiled two new product concepts at the event: the D-Max EV Concept, a prototype pickup truck with 100% electric power (BEV), and the Isuzu D-Max Hi-lander MHEV, a diesel vehicle. The 48-volt mild hybrid system is compatible with the 1.9-liter turbocharged model; both are presently undergoing development. & getting ready to release a production version at some point for actual distribution.
Isuzu D-MAX EV conceept
The Isuzu D-Max EV Concept is a four-door pickup truck with full-time four-wheel drive (4WD). It is built on the same chassis as the standard D-Max with an internal combustion engine, but it has a newly developed “eAxle” that powers a rear differential and a set of dual electric motors. Combined with the all-new rear suspension, creates a balance in driving both smoothness and carrying capacity.
The basic specifications of the Isuzu D-Max EV Concept are:
- Full-time 4WD 4-wheel drive system
- Maximum total power 130 KW or 177 hp
- Front eAxle drive system, maximum power 40 kW
- eAxle drive system, rear, maximum power 90 kW
- Maximum total torque: 325 Nm
- Front eAxle drive system, maximum torque 108 Nm.
- eAxle rear drive system, maximum torque 217 Nm.
- Top speed: 130 km/h
- Towing capacity: 3.5 tons
- Battery type: Lithium-ion
- Maximum battery capacity: 66.9 kWh
- Maximum payload weight: 1 ton
On the other hand, the Isuzu D-Max Hi-Lander MHEV uses a mild-hybrid powertrain that combines a turbodiesel engine with a small electric motor. Installing a 48V battery increases the driving power of the 1.9-liter turbocharged engine, reduces the engine’s workload during startup, lessens vibration, and minimizes CO2.
Isuzu D-Max MHEV
Isuzu intends to introduce the D-MAX EV and MHEV versions in markets depending on where the electric vehicles or hybrids are popular. More information to be shared as & when available.
