South Korean automaker Kia is inching closer towards its comeback in Pakistan. Partnered with Lucky Cement group, the Kia-Lucky venture had signed an agreement with the Ministry of Industries and Production according to which production of light commercial and passenger vehicles will take place in Pakistan under Automotive Development Policy 2016-2021.
Reportedly the manufacturing and assembling facilities will be functional in the year 2019. However KIA vehicles will be available for purchase to car buyers in Pakistan as KIA-Lucky will start importing cars in 2018.

Now the company’s website has been launched and you can see Pakistan among the listed countries in Asia Pacific region. According to the website the available cars are Kia Picanto, Kia Sportage, Kia Grand Carnival and K2700 commercial pickup. Surprisingly there is no mention of the Kia Rio that has already been spotted testing quite a few times on our roads.
Following are the key things to note:
- The 1.0 liter Picanto (although a previous generation model), will be available in 5-speed manual & 4-speed automatic transmission. So good news for those looking for auto tranny in a small car.
- The Grand Carnival will come equipped with a 3.3 liter V6 engine.
- The Sportage will come equipped with a 2.0 liter Nu Mpi and 2.4 liter Theta GDi engine.
- The 2.7 liter K2700 diesel pickup will be available with two decks (standard and long).
Pricing of these vehicles are yet to be disclosed. Further details will be updated as and when available. Stay tuned to CarSpiritPK for more details on the Kia vehicles in Pakistan.
