Lexus has just unveiled the new generation RX SUV at the Auto Expo 2023 in India. For Lexus, this is the second hybrid SUV in the Indian market after the NX which was launched in 2022.
The all-new RX, which is their flagship SUV & is in its 5th generation is available in two models, the RX 350h Luxury and RX 500h F Sport Performance. Available with a lone hybrid engine, the RX is open for booking with deliveries set to commence in March 2023.
The midsize SUV boasts a more developed appearance that gives it a sportier and more aggressive look. The front grille features a distinctive spindle design that is exclusive to Lexus SUVs. Massive air dams, a sculpted bonnet, a sloping roofline, slim LED DRLs, and enormous linked LED tail lamps are among the other design highlights.

The interior of the 2023 Lexus RXÂ includes a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, ADAS, a digital rearview mirror, wireless charging, and a 360-degree camera. While Android Auto still requires a wired connection, Apple CarPlay provides wireless connectivity. The seats in the SUV are covered in vegan synthetic leather to increase the interior’s sustainability.
The Lexus RX 350h Luxury is powered by a 2.5L turbocharged petrol engine mated to a CVT transmission; when combined with the strong-hybrid system, it produces 244hp and comes with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive configurations. The FWD is capable to do a 0-100km/h sprint in 8.1 seconds while the AWD does the same in 7.9 seconds.
The higher-performance RX 500h F Sport Performance gets a 2.4L turbo-petrol engine mated to a 6-speed automated transmission. The setup produces 361hp of power and 460Nm of torque thanks to its robust hybrid system. It comes equipped with all-wheel drive and has a claimed 0-100km/h acceleration time of just 6.2 seconds. In the new RX SUV, Lexus used a high-power bipolar nickel-metal hydride battery.

Official prices are yet to be disclosed but are expected to be around INR 1 crore. The new Lexus RX will compete against vehicles such as the Mercedes-Benz GLE, the BMW X5, and the Audi Q7 in the premium segment of the Indian market.
