Mazda EZ-6 Sedan Launched in China

Following its debut in Beijing in April this year, the Mazda EZ-6 electric sedan has now gone on sale in China. Built by Changan-Mazda joint venture in China, the EZ-6 shares its underpinnings with the Deepal SL03. The fully electric sedan is available with or without a range extender and is priced between 139,800 and 179,800 yuan (approximately PKR 5.8 million to PKR 7.4 million), with seven variants offered.

Starting with the version that includes a range extender, the EZ-6 is a fully electric vehicle (EV) equipped with a rear-mounted electric motor delivering 258 PS (255 hp or 190 kW) and 320 Nm of torque. It is powered by a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery that supports fast charging, allowing it to go from 30% to 80% state of charge (SoC) in just 15 minutes.

The LFP battery is available in two capacities: a 56.1-kWh version that offers up to 480 km of range based on China’s generous CLTC standard, and a larger 68.8-kWh option that extends the range to 600 km.

For the range-extender variants, of which four are available, they are equipped with a JL473QJ 1.5-liter naturally aspirated inline-four petrol engine producing 95 PS (94 hp or 70 kW), which generates electricity for the LFP battery.

The battery capacities for these range-extended electric vehicles (REEVs) are smaller, at 18.9 kWh and 28.4 kWh, both supporting fast charging from 30% to 80% state of charge (SoC) in 20 minutes. The CLTC-rated pure electric driving ranges are 130 km and 200 km, respectively, but with the range extender, the total driving range can reach up to 1,301 km. Compared to the pure EV versions, the REEV models feature a less powerful rear electric motor, delivering 218 PS (215 hp or 160 kW) and 320 Nm of torque.

In China, the EZ-6 is significantly larger than the Mazda 6 it replaces. It measures 4,921 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, 1,485 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,895 mm. This makes the EZ-6 56 mm longer, 50 mm wider, 35 mm taller, and with a 65 mm longer wheelbase compared to the Mazda 6. Both versions of the EZ-6 offer 479 liters of rear boot space, but the non-REEV variant also includes a front trunk (frunk) for an additional 99 liters of storage.
