MG (Morris Garages) is the British automotive marque which is now under the influence of SAIC (Shanghai Auto Industry Corporation) of China. The vehicles are being brought in Pakistan in collaboration with JW-SEZ, having Javed Afridi who is well known for being the owner of Pakistan Super League’s Peshawar Zalmi team, among its key stakeholders. According to Javed Afridi:
“The demand is great for this British car. They (MG) are providing a sporty SUV with high-end technology that will transform the Pakistani auto market.”
Afridi added that limited stock for MG HS SUV is already available but a formal launch will take place in December. The vehicle is powered by 1.5L turbocharged engine under its hood compared to other similar vehicles available which have 2.0L or bigger naturally aspirated units. The smaller yet powerful engine will not only result in better fuel economy but will aid in lower taxes for the consumers as well.
As per reports, the company will start local production by June 2021 with 3 SUVs to be introduced in the first phase including the MG-HS, MG-ZS and an all electric ZS EV. MG will also launch other models by early 2021, including sedans as well as hatchbacks. According to Javed Afridi, the company had a good experience after it launched commercial vehicles under the banner of JW-Forland.
