MG has launched the commemorative “10th Anniversary Edition” of the MG5 sedan (also known as MG GT) in Thailand. That is because the first generation MG5 arrived 10 years ago, marking the beginning of this nameplate after the loss-making British brand was acquired by SAIC Motor of China in 2007 and turned its fortunes.
In terms of appearance, the 10th Anniversary Edition is largely similar to the regular models but has been enhanced cosmetically. Changes include black side mirrors, black door handles, black emblems & a special black 10th-anniversary badge (at the rear), and new 17-inch black alloy wheels with the special 10th-anniversary emblem.
Inside the black theme continues but with contrasting red stitching that can be seen on black leather seats, door trims, and the shift knob. Safety features include 4 airbags, ABS with EBD and EBA, Cornering Braking Control System XDS (Electronic Differential System), TCS anti-roll system, HAS (Hill Assist), Emergency brake system ESS, Electronic Parking Brake with Auto Hold, ISOFIX seat anchor points, Speed Sensing Door Locks, Automatic safety belts, Rear occupants alarm, and Engine immobilizer.
Under the hood, the MG5 10th Anniversary Edition retains the 1.5L engine good for 114 hp and 150 Nm that is paired to a CVT automatic transmission with a program lock gear ratio & 8 virtual speeds. The 10th Anniversary Edition of MG5 in Thailand is priced at 589,900 baht (PKR 45.77 lac).
