Al-Haj Proton has given a massive price hike to its locally assembled Saga and X70 variants in Pakistan. The prices of these cars were already removed from the website as the new prices were supposed to be announced after the fiscal budget. The revised prices are effective from the 19th of June 2023.
According to the notification, the new price of Proton Saga Standard MT is PKR 37.79 lac, that of Saga Standard AT is PKR 39.49 lac, and lastly, the flagship Saga ACE AT has breached the Rs 4 million price barrier as it now cost PKR 40.99 lac. This renders a price increase of around a whopping Rs 800,000 for the Proton Saga sedan in Pakistan.
Then comes the Proton X70 which has witnessed an even greater price revision. The new price of the X70 Executive AWD variant is PKR 87.99 lac while the flagship X70 Premium 2WD variant is now available for PKR 92.99 lac. This means the Proton X70’s pricing in Pakistan has increased by about Rs 2 million.
While one USD is currently being traded at around Rs 297.5 at the time of putting down this article, not to mention it dipped to an all-time low at Rs 316 on 30th May after it recovered slightly to around Rs 294.5 by 15th June and then again began to slide down. With such currency depreciation, an extravagant price jump like this was always expected but with these suicidal prices, the Proton Saga and X70 will struggle even more than ever to leave the showroom floors.
