Toyota GR Yaris is Even Faster on the Dyno

The Toyota GR Yaris has been in news ever since it made its debut last year. Known as a little monster of this era, the 3-door performance version of regular 4th gen Yaris comes equipped with an extremely powerful turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine which churns out staggering 257 hp and a massive peak torque of 360 Nm transferred to both axles through a 6-speed manual gearbox. However the JDM version is even more powerful at delivering 268hp.

Last week, Mat Watson of Carwow tested the GR Yaris and was able to get from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.31 seconds, a little faster that what Toyota claimed (5.5 seconds). Now NM2255 YouTube channel captured a totally stock GR Yaris being treated to a few dyno runs. Interestingly, the little hatchback was able to put down a maximum reading of 278 hp to the wheels—10 more horsepower than what the car is rated at the crank.

While the GR Yaris is become increasingly popular in markets where it has already been introduced, so much that the initial allocated batch of the vehicle was quick to be sold out, with key markets negotiating Toyota for a supply of more units. It is highly unlikely for us to get a vehicle of this kind here in our market.

However last year Toyota announced to change its image and consumer perception by launching a performance version of each of its core models. And with the GR Yaris they have certainly produced a road car with a rallying blood.
