Toyota Hilux Travo Test Mule Spotted Testing in Thailand

As previously reported, the all-new Toyota Hilux is set to make its global debut in Thailand in the second half of this year. Recent sightings of a camouflaged test mule suggest that Toyota is actively putting the new pickup through rigorous testing ahead of its official launch.

Only the front and rear of the vehicle are wrapped in camouflage, while the sides remain uncovered. This aligns with information suggesting that the next-generation Toyota Hilux will feature a complete redesign of the front and rear while retaining the cabin structure and side body panels from the current model. This approach is similar to the redesign of the new Camry, which was built on the same engineering platform and shares some body panels with its predecessor. Therefore, referring to it as the “All-New Hilux” or a “Hilux Major Facelift” would be equally fitting.

The spy shots reveal that the exterior design of the new Toyota Hilux closely aligns with the previously shared renderings. The front section has undergone a complete overhaul, featuring redesigned front fenders, a new hood, front bumper, grille, and headlights.

Likewise, the rear section is covered in camouflage, hiding its updated design. Changes include revamped rear fenders, a redesigned tailgate, and new taillights. There’s also speculation that additional features, such as a step integrated into the rear wheel arches—similar to the current Ford Ranger—could be introduced.

In terms of powertrain, the new Hilux is expected to continue using the GD series diesel engines, with potential upgrades to meet Euro5 and Euro6 emission standards. On the engineering front, the new Hilux will likely feature an Electronic Power Steering (EPS) system, which was first introduced in the Hilux Revo E. The key point to watch is how much the new Hilux will improve the responsiveness of its steering system and suspension to address the weaknesses of the current model.

The launch of the new Toyota Hilux is scheduled to take place in Thailand in the second half of 2025. Regarding the market name, based on information from Toyota’s trademark/service registration filed with Thailand’s Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) in December 2024, it is highly likely that the name “Travo” will serve as the suffix. This aligns with Toyota’s marketing strategy for each generation of the Hilux, where the suffix is typically updated with every full model change such as the Hilux Vigo, then the Hilux Revo, and now possibly the Hilux Travo.
