2024 Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series Facelift Debuts

Toyota has unveiled another facelift for the legendary Land Cruiser 70 Series, which has been in continuous production since 1984. With the addition of contemporary technologies, the most recent upgrade maintains the vintage aesthetic while boosting attractiveness. While the Japanese market range is still confined to the five-door SUV body design, the shorter three-door variant with a V6 gasoline engine is now available in the United Arab Emirates.

Throughout its existence, the Series 70 has featured a variety of body forms, leaving it unclear which ones would be retained with the latest upgrade. Toyota’s website in the United Arab Emirates features a single-cab truck, a five-door SUV, and a three-door SUV, the latter two of which are for sale. Furthermore, photos of a dual-cab pickup truck from Toyota Australia have surfaced, implying that the revamped lineup is nearly complete, with only the ‘Troop Carrier’ wagon still to be revealed.

While the five-door Land Cruiser is significantly more practical for most people, the three-door variation has a special attraction for off-road aficionados due to its diminutive size. The three-door variant is 640 mm (25.2 inches) shorter than the five-door vehicle, measuring 4,235 mm.

The updated visual components added in the 2024 facelift, such as the round (although LED) headlamps, projecting indicators, chrome-infused bumper, and blocked taillights, reflect the design of the original, resulting in a timeless appeal. The UAE-spec vehicle also includes 16-inch alloy wheels with high-profile rubber tires.

The seats are upholstered in Nubuck and Synthetic Leather, and the inside includes a 9-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a 2-speaker audio setup, and power windows. Although there are only two front airbags, the safety kit has been upgraded with a few Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including Lane Departure Assist and a Pre-Collision System.

Unlike Japan, where the Land Cruiser 70 Series is offered with turbodiesel engines (a 2.8L inline-four or a 4.5L V8), there is only one gasoline powertrain option available to buyers in the United Arab Emirates. A 4.0-liter V6 24V Dual VVT-i (1GR-FE) engine serves the duty while producing 228 hp of power and 360 Nm of torque. The drive is transmitted to all four wheels via a sturdy 4WD system and a 6-speed Super ECT automatic gearbox.
