South Korean automaker SsangYong has released the first official images of its new electric SUV called the Torres EVX (short form of EV eXtreme). Though much of the technical details haven’t been shared now, SsangYong however, will provide us with all the information on March 30 during the 2023 Seoul Mobility Show.

At the first glance, the electric Torres looks a lot like its ICE-powered sibling, which debuted in June last year. The side profile is nearly unchanged, however, there are significant alterations in the front. The front of the Torres EVX is sleeker with 6 LED dots in the center between the LED lights at the corners of the upper part, in contrast to the ICE-powered Torres, which has a more conventional design.
The inside of the electric Torres is substantially different from that of the 1.5L turbocharged variant. The huge tablet-style display in the center has been replaced by a dual-screen configuration, which is similar in general design to what BMW offers. The console under the central screen is likewise different, and there doesn’t appear to be another display for the HVAC system below it. We don’t see the rest of the dashboard, but the steering wheel is identical, with what appear to be physical buttons on both sides.
SsangYong, which will shortly be rebranded KG Mobility, has not provided any specifics about the Torres EVX’s underpinnings. The carmaker does, however, already sell an electric crossover in the form of the Korando e-Motion, which features a single electric motor on the front axle delivering 190 horsepower.
With a battery pack with a usable capacity of 55.3-kilowatt hours, the Korando e-Motion can travel up to 340 km between charges according to the WLTP cycle. We might see a similar setup along with some technology updates and perhaps an all-wheel-drive model given the Torres EVX’s more robust design and larger size. More details will be available on March 30, so stay tuned.
