Hyundai is trying to make a big impact in the compact sedan segment with the introduction of all new 7th generation Elantra sedan. Just like the new Sonata, the new 2021 Elantra boasts a striking design, an advanced assortment of tech features, and a new hybrid version that promises up to 21.5 km/ liter combined.

Following the theme of “Parametric Dynamics,” the all-new Elantra adopts a more coupe-inspired roofline rendering a more dynamic stance. The side profile is a lot bolder thanks to the polyhedral shapes on its body, with the most obvious being those seen on the doors. The sedan will get its front end inspired by the 8th generation Sonata, sporting a wide grille that blends into the lighting clusters. The rear gets angular taillights that are linked by a full-width light bar running in between the Hyundai emblem.
Apart from the compelling looks, the new Elantra is now one of the largest sedans in the compact segment. Its 2.2 inches longer, 1 inch wider, and has a 20mm longer wheelbase when compared to its predecessor benefitting into offering more interior space for the occupants.

The all new 2021 Elantra is based on Hyundai’s new K3 platform, which is lighter yet stronger, resulting in improved fuel efficiency. The platform offers a lower center of gravity, improving its driving dynamics and handling of the new Elantra.
Inside the new Elantra gets a completely redesigned interior which is a radical departure from the 6th gen it replaces. Hyundai calls it the “Immersive Cocoon,” and it is meant to create a driver-focused user experience. Minimalistic in appearance, the driver and front passenger zones are divided by a trim piece that originates from the center console and continues to below the red-accented slim air vents and into door cards, forming the aforementioned “cocoon”. The dashboard accommodates two integrated displays and notable touch points include low-mounted door handles and a new steering wheel.
The dual-screen display layout incorporates two huge 10.25-inch screens under a single continuous piece of glass. One screen is a digital gauge cluster in front of the driver and the other is an infotainment touchscreen in the center stack. However this setup is restricted to top-spec trims as standard versions get 8-inch screen. Regardless of the size, both units support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Other interior features include a 64-colour LED mood lighting system, slim air vents, a cornering grab handle for the front passenger, and voice-recognition system. Options include Qi wireless Smartphone charging tray, Blue Link Connected Car System, and 8-speaker Bose premium sound system with Super65 wide-range speakers in the front doors and a woofer at the back.
In terms of power, the new 2021 Elantra gets 2.0L MPI Atkinson Cycle engine that generates 147 hp of power and 179 Nm of torque. An Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT) is standard, which Hyundai claims to offer the best-in-class fuel economy. For Elantra Hybrid, the power comes from 1.6L GDI Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder petrol engine, featuring a permanent-magnet electric motor which delivers 43 hp (32 kW). The electric motor is powered by a 1.32 kWh lithium-ion-polymer battery pack that’s placed under the rear seats. The combined system output is 139 hp and 264 Nm of torque, with power sent to the front wheels through 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
As for safety and driver assist systems, the 2021 Elantra gets Hyundai SmartSense suite which includes Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Following Assist (LFA), High Beam Assist (HBA), Driver Attention Warning (DAW), and rear view camera with dynamic guidelines as standard.
Optional systems include Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance Assist (BCA) with Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA), Smart Cruise Control (SCC), Highway Driving Assist (HDA; helps keep the car centred within lane), Safe Exit Warning (SEW), Reverse Parking Collision Avoidance Assist (PCA) with pedestrian and obstacle detection as well as Digital Key that can be paired with Smartphone to lock/ unlock the vehicle as well as to operate various other vehicle functions. Production of the 2021 Hyundai Elantra will begin in September this year while sales will begin towards the end of this year.
