All-New 2024 Lancia Ypsilon EV Teased Ahead of February Debut

27th November, on Lancia’s 117th anniversary, the Renaissance of the Lancia brand begins with the first teaser image of the Lancia Ypsilon.

The Italian city car will be reborn as an EV, launching with a limited edition called Edizione Limitata Cassina available in only 1906 examples and as a 100% pure electric vehicle. It will be formally revealed in Milan in February 2024. The number 1906 respects Lancia’s founding date in the wake of its 117th anniversary.

Even though the special launch edition remains hidden for the time being, Lancia has unveiled multiple photos of a covered full-size model, revealing the Ypsilon’s silhouette and the distinctive hood contour—where the new lighting signature will likely be placed.

However, the centerpiece of the teasers released by Lancia is the circular component between the front seats, or what Lancia refers to as the “tavolino.” The coffee table-like framework in the Edizione Limitata Cassina is encircled by an aluminum-style trim and covered in an upholstery that resembles leather. According to Lancia, the tavolino “strongly recalls the home feeling concept that has always been central to the brand”.

The high-end furniture manufacturer Cassina, an Italian firm that previously collaborated with Lancia on the Pu+Ra HPE concept, was involved in the development of the special edition. Talking about the new Ypsilon, Luca Fuso, Cassina CEO, commented:

“We have a very broad vision of design and we believe that it is important to explore new ways to best represent today’s lifestyle. The collaboration with Lancia, a company with whom we share many values such as innovation, research, and respect for Italian manufacturing tradition, has allowed us to extend our expertise to the automotive sector with the Lancia Ypsilon Edizione Limitata Cassina.”

Luca Napolitano, Lancia Brand CEO said the day everyone has all been waiting for is finally here, as it marks the Renaissance of the Lancia brand with the first image of Lancia Ypsilon, the first of three cars in our Strategic Plan. Luca, while praising Cassina’s collaboration on the project, said:

“Thanks to the collaboration with Cassina, this car becomes the ultimate expression of the home feeling on board of a Lancia car, emphasizing attention to detail, materials, colors, and spaces, featuring the first-ever onboard “tavolino” in a car to make you feel at home, wherever you are.”

The new Lancia Ypsilon will be built on Stellantis underpinnings, as will many of the group’s superminis and B-SUVs. The Ypsilon will be available with mildly hybrid drivetrains, but the “Cassina” edition will only be available in electric vehicle configuration. Thus, the vehicle will serve as both Lancia’s first into the EV market and its final ICE-powered model prior to the Italian company’s switch to EVs exclusively in 2028.

Over the coming weeks, Lancia says it will keep unveiling a series of further details of Ypsilon in the lead-up to the main event in February 2024. The Lancia Ypsilon will be the key model in the company’s 10-year Renaissance strategic plan. After the 2024 debut of Ypsilon, Lancia’s model range will grow with the Gamma electric crossover flagship in 2026, followed by the Delta electric hatchback in 2028.
