When Dolphin first went on sale in August 2021, it saw 1,755 units leaving the showroom floors. Its popularity has risen steadily ever since. Notably, in August 2023, BYD Dolphin reported sales of 32,745 units, rendering more than 1,000 units sold per day on average.
The expansion of BYD Dolphin’s market reach outside of China is a trend worth noting. Thanks to an increased production capacity, BYD has started supplying the Dolphin EV to Asia Pacific and Latin American markets. In its launch year 2021, between August and December, 27 units of this model were exported, and then in 2022, BYD exported 1,303 units of Dolphin. However from January to August 2023, BYD has shipped 28,387 units already and this figure is expected to continue growing, solidifying Dolphin’s status as one of BYD’s pivotal overseas models.

Built on BYD’s e-platform 3.0, powered by the LFP Blade batteries, the Dolphin EV was designed under the “Marine Aesthetics” theme, developed by BYD’s chief designer Wolfgang Egger, who previously worked for Audi as head of design and joined BYD back in 2017.
The BYD Dolphin EV is powered by a front permanent magnet synchronous motor in two configurations: 70 kW/180 Nm and 130 kW/290 Nm. The motors are paired with a 44.9 kWh LFP Blade battery pack and supports 60 kW fast charging. The Dolphin EV can cruise for around 400 to 420km in a full charge, depending on the variant.
