Chinese EV giant BYD (Build Your Dreams) showcased the Seal EV for the first time in India at the Auto Expo 2023. The Seal is a pure-electric sedan that is considered BYD’s answer to the hugely popular Tesla Model 3. The Seal will be the third BYD passenger EV released in India within two years, the company already sells the E6 electric MPV and the Atto 3 electric crossover in the Indian market.
BYD has confirmed the Seal’s India launch by the fourth quarter of 2023, with deliveries to begin around the same time. Price is expected to be revealed towards the third quarter of 2023.
Built on the latest E-Platform 3.0, the Seal EV is the company’s first vehicle equipped with CTB (cell-to-body) technology, substantially upgrading the vehicle’s safety, stability, and handling. It has an 82.5kWh Blade battery & boasts a range of up to 700km (CLTC cycle) on a single charge.
Apart from the Seal EV, BYD also has on display the limited-edition version of the Atto 3 with a special green paint scheme. While the Atto 3 is priced at INR 33.99 lac, the new Limited Edition has been priced at INR 34.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Only 1,200 units of this Limited Edition Atto 3 will be available in India.
BYD’s new energy vehicle footprint now covers 6 continents, over 70 countries and regions, and more than 400 cities. Sanjay Gopalakrishnan, Senior Vice President of Electric Passenger Vehicles of BYD India, while speaking at the event, said:
