Troubled online ride hailing service Careem has shut down all operations in Hyderabad city according to a notification sent by the company to its users.

The decision that has become effective from the 19th of July has seen permanent closure of all Careem operations in the city. However as per the notice the customers can be able to use remaining Careem credits for recharging their mobile balance or taking rides in other cities.
Careem which is in a move to cut costs amid slowdown in business activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic has already laid off about 700 employees since the beginning of this year. Careem has also lately faced stiff competition from new entrants in the mobility sector including Airlift and the Egypt-based Swvl.
