While most Chinese automakers have tilted their focus towards developing pure-electric cars, few have even completely ditched ICE (internal combustion engine) powered vehicles, however, Changan is among those automakers still having good faith in vehicles with conventional gasoline engines.
The new Yida sedan is an example, which comes as the latest addition to Changan’s sedan range in China. Positioned between the Eado and Raeton sedans, the all-new Yida sits on Changan’s new front-wheel drive ‘Ark’ platform that supports both petrol and plug-in hybrid vehicles.
In terms of dimensions, the Changan Yida measures 4,770/1,840/1,440mm with a 2,765 mm wheelbase. For the sake of comparison, the latest 11th gen Honda Civic we have here measures 4,674/1,801/1,140mm & has a 2,736mm wheelbase. This makes the Yida larger than 11th gen Civic in every aspect and has a much greater wheelbase resulting in a lot of room for the occupants inside.
Changan Yida sports an aggressive fascia having a grille reminiscent of that of UNI-V sedan, smoked LED headlamps, a sloping roof line, flush door handles, 18-inch dual-tone alloys, rear bumpers with rectangular exhaust outlets, and a cool spoiler on the back. The most notable design detail is the black strip over the front fender, running from the headlights to about 3/4th of the hood, as well as a rear brake light mounted on the edge of the roof.
Inside, the minimalist design theme makes Yida’s interior look more like that of an EV. There is a multi-layered dashboard with a 10.25 inch instrument panel located on the top, behind a double-spoke multi-function steering wheel with a flat top and bottom. The gear selector is located on the center stack, just in front of the 13.2-inch floating vertically-oriented touchscreen. There are no physical buttons on the dashboard which means everything is operated via the touchscreen system.
Under the hood, the Changan Yida is powered by a ‘Blue Whale’ 1.5L turbocharged engine that churns out 170 hp of power and 260 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Fuel consumption is rated at 5.99 liters per 100 kilometers (16.69 km per liter). It will be packed with safety features & driver assistance systems, the details of which will be available in forthcoming weeks.

The price is yet to be disclosed but according to Chinese motoring media, it is expected to start at around 85,000 yuan (PKR 27.89 lac). The all-new Changan Yida sedan will be officially launched on the Chinese car market by March 2023. Do you think Changan should consider bringing this sedan here, let us know with your comments.
