It’s another day and another Chinese automaker is gearing up to launch an electric vehicle (EV). Yuanhang Auto is a new brand under the Dayun Group (集团), which includes companies such as Dayun Truck, Dayun Motorcycle, Dayun Pickup Truck, Dayun New Energy, and Dayun Passenger Car.
Dayun Passenger Car already produces two low-budget EVs in China, however, the Dayun Group’s Yuanhang Auto is aimed at the high-end electric vehicle market in China. Yuanhang (远航) which means ‘Voyage’ in Chinese, unveiled four cars at the 2022 Chengdu Motor Show last year that are slated to go into production starting from 2023. And here we have the first of these 4 EV models, the Yuanhang Y6.

The Y6 is positioned as a luxury executive sedan and sits on Yuanhang’s electric BHD (Beyond the Horizon of Drive) platform jointly developed with Bosch and Huawei. In terms of dimensions, the Yuanhang Y6 measures 5,270/2,000/1,500 mm with a 3,130 mm wheelbase. These dimensions make it even larger than the Hyundai Sonata we have here, which measures 4,910/ 1,860/ 1,445 mm and has a 2,840 mm wheelbase. Thus the Y6 can be classified as a proper D-segment sedan.
The Yuanhang Y6 features a fluid styling language with prevalent design elements including LED headlamps up front, a fastback profile, hidden door handles, frameless doors, full-width LED tail lights, and a full-scale panoramic roof.
Inside, Yuanhang Y6 is equipped with a two-spoke flat-bottom multi-functional steering wheel, a 12.3-inch LCD instrument panel, and a 17.38-inch central control screen which comes with the AliOS intelligent cockpit operating system developed by Alibaba. The sound comes from a 27-speaker audio system. There is another small touchscreen for the rear seat passengers placed on the center armrest along with a couple of cup holders.

The powertrain is available either in single-motor rear-wheel drive or dual-motor four-wheel drive configurations, distributed across 5 variants, paired with ternary lithium battery packs. The rear-wheel drive variants get an electric motor of 250 kW and 400 Nm, together with 2 battery pack capacities: 88.42 kWh and 100 kWh, which deliver a cruising range of 720 km and 810 km, respectively. The claimed 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time is 5.9 seconds.
The four-wheel drive variant has dual electric motors: 500 kW/745 Nm and 520 kW/850 Nm mounted on front & rear axles. Three battery pack capacities are available: 88.42 kWh, 100 kWh, and 150 kWh delivering a corresponding cruising range of 620 km, 720 km, and 1,020 km respectively. The top speed is capped at 205 km/h, while the stated 0 – 100 km/h acceleration time is 3.2 seconds.
In addition, 800V fast charging is supported in which 10 minutes of charging can increase the cruising range by 300 km, according to the company. The pre-sale price of Yuanhang Y6 ranges between 329,800 – 529,800 yuan ($45,100 – $73,000). Mass production will begin on 8th November, while the formal launch is expected to take place before the end of this year.
Edit: Dayun’s Yuanhang Y6 EV sedan started rolling off the production lines on November 8, 2023.
