Changan has just launched the new Qiyuan A05 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) sedan in China which happens to be even cheaper than the Suzuki Wagon R here. Available in 6 variants, the Qiyuan A05 is priced between 89,900 – 132,900 yuan ($12,300 – $18,100).
This (as per the current currency conversion rate at $1=Rs 275) translates into PKR 34.26 lac for the base model and PKR 50.41 lac for the most expensive variant. For the sake of comparison, the price of Suzuki Wagon R in Pakistan goes as high as PKR 37.41 lac for the AGS version. On the other hand, the price of the flagship A05 PHEV is almost as same as the Suzuki Swift here, which is available at PKR 49.60 lac.
Coming back to the A05, it is the second model in Changan’s Qiyuan brand lineup after the recently introduced A07 sedan. The car measures 4,785 mm long, 1,840 mm wide, and 1,460 mm tall while having a wheelbase of 2,765 mm. For reference, the 11th-generation Honda Civic sedan here measures 4,674/ 1,801/ 1,415 mm and has a 2,736 mm wheelbase. This means the Qiyuan A05 is longer, wider, taller, and has a greater wheelbase than the new Civic.

Exterior styling cues include a closed fascia, slim wrap-around LED headlamp units, flushed door handles, a sloping roofline, a shark fin antenna with an embedded stop lamp, and slim LED tail lights.
Inside, the interior is simple with minimal physical buttons decorated in a dual color scheme, covered in a large area of soft materials, and embellished with wood grain veneer. The 13.2-inch vertically-mounted floating central control screen has an aspect ratio of 16:9 and is equipped with an MT8666 chip and the iFlytek Feiyu OS 4.0 operating system. The 10.25-inch full LCD instrument panel is positioned behind the two-spoke flat-bottom multi-function steering wheel.
The A05 is equipped with level 2 advanced driving assistance functionalities and voice control. Passengers can command weather queries, navigation, and temperature control through voice interaction.

Power comes from a plug-in hybrid system consisting of a 108hp Blue Whale 1.5L engine paired with an electric motor sending power to the front wheels. The electric motor is available in low- and high-power versions, with a maximum power/peak torque of 140 kW (187hp)/ 330 Nm and 158 kW (212hp)/330 Nm, respectively. The 0 – 100 km/h acceleration time is only 6.8 seconds.
The Qiyuan A05 offers both 9.07 kWh ternary lithium and 18.99 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack options, providing a CLTC pure electric cruising range of 70 km and 145 km for the low- and high-power versions, respectively. The comprehensive cruising ranges are as high as 1,225 km and 1,300 km, respectively, under a full tank and full charge.
