The newest example of Chinese automakers pushing the limits of electric vehicles is the Zeekr 001 FR, which boasts incredible performance and makes a lot of promises.
The 001 FR, which is positioned as a competitor to the “dull” Tesla Model S Plaid, has a quad motor powertrain that generates 1,248 horsepower (930 kW) and 1,280 Nm of torque. These are no less than hypercar numbers, allowing the EV to sprint from 0-100 km/h in 2.36 seconds (from a standstill) and 2.07 seconds “in a rolling start scenario.” That’s insanely quick, but the top speed is electronically capped at 280 km/h.
The model incorporates carbon fiber-wrapped rear motors and “straight waterfall oil cooling technology” to handle the high performance. These assist in keeping everything operating smoothly, albeit peak performance is only accessible for 10 seconds at a time and only when the car has more than 50% charge.
A 100 kWh battery pack with 800V technology and a “multifunctional elastic interlayer” that “greatly improves energy density, heat dissipation, and safety” serves as the source of power. The battery can charge from 10% to 80% in as little as 15 minutes, according to Zeekr, which did not provide a range.

The quad motor powertrain allows 001 FR for outstanding handling, with the car pulling 1.4 G’s lateral force in corners. The vehicle can also do tank turns since the wheels on one side can spin forward while the wheels on the other side reverse. When enabled, the vehicle has the ability to rotate 360 degrees.

The improvements go beyond the engine and include a high-performance braking system with ten-piston AP Racing front calipers that grip onto 16.5-inch (420 mm) Brembo carbon ceramic front discs. There are four-piston calipers and 16.1-inch (410 mm) discs in the back.
An aggressive carbon fiber body kit with a front splitter, side skirts, a rear diffuser, and a huge wing is there for the vehicle’s aesthetics. They are joined by a carbon fiber roof, carbon fiber mirror caps, and 22-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in high-performance rubber.

Zeekr 001 FR is Geely’s most powerful car to date. The company also claims 001 FR is the world’s fastest mass-produced car, though official prices are yet to be disclosed. Zeekr has already reached Europe, starting with the Netherlands, and plans to expand into Norway, Germany, Denmark, and France, with the goal of entering most of the Western European countries by 2026.
